The Course Wiki for

Building Online Collaborative Environments

A class project by Performance Learning System graduate students of January 2008.

Wikis allow people to come together on the Web and create all types of material collaboratively and cooperatively. They are similar to blogs in that one can publish content online. While blogs are written by one person, wikis are created by a group of individuals. Everyone may contribute material and work together to build the site. A blog is owned and managed by one person; a wiki is created and owned by a group.

There are many uses for wikis in education and business. Wikis can provide a place where teachers can collaborate and share ideas. Students in different locations may use them to build projects and share research information. The possibilities and uses are many. Collaboration is possible without the limits of time or location.
