    Your Response
All of the listed steps would be appropriate ways to deal with the comments. It comes down to preparing your class ahead of time to the very real possibility of this type of things happening and how to respond to it. Besides talking privately to Olivia, it is a valuable practice for the whole class on how to safely deal with inappropriate remarks. If the abuse would continue from the same poster, another option would be to actually contact the police and report it for investigation. Nice job!

This looks like a district acceptable use policy that reflects the use of Web 2.0 tools. How do you know that students and their parents agree to the possible.

At my district, when student crank up the computer, there is a message to the effect that they are accepting the AUP by logging in to the computer.

But I wonder who is responsible for being certain that students understand exactly what that means.

    Great Job
I would be surprised if you would be the only one Olivia would tell about the posting. This class is definitely candidates for a cybersafety lesson!!!

I really like the way you shared your discussion about what else to do! I agree with you that it is better for parents, principals, and possibly guidance find out what happened from you. No principal likes to be blind-sided by a parent calling. It has been my experience that it is often not even "Olivia's" parent who calls...but a parent of a classmate who doesn't know all the facts about how you handled it.

    My Scenario Response
Working with elementary students is critical. They are usually trusting and do not know about the bad things that can happen. As adults we are charge to keep them safe and teach them to keep themselves safe. At the same time we don't want to frighten them away from learning new things. You did a nice job responding to Aaron, with terrorizing him.

A possible extension would be to have the class put the rules in their own words and create banners or posters to post around the area where they are working on computers in the classroom or in a lab. Or even in the hallway to help other classes learn the same lessons.

    Good job
